We were approached for assistance in the rehabilitation of the Toi Market in Kibera, which was burnt down during the post election violence. We constructed 60 stalls at approximately KShs.500, 000/=.
Asian Foundation Market in Kibera, is another of our initiatives, and was built in the early 1990This market is situated next to Toi Market. The Foundation through the members of the managing committee puts in effort to selflessly serve Community when in need.
Asian Foundation collaborated with government of Kenya and UNDP in US$ 100,000 project -Linking Jua Kali (MSE) to the Formal Sector"
The projects were initially funded by UNDP and executed by UNIDO. The Centers: Ziwani Jua Kali Demonstration and Training Center, National Jua Kali Demonstration and Training center (Kariobangi) and Enterprise Development Agency (EDA). We aimed at strengthening linkages between informal and formal sectors so at to promote the expansion and growth of informal enterprises. This aims at gradually transforming them into formal means of creating job opportunities in subsectors of- Motor Vehicle, Metal Fabrication and Textile.
The Asian Foundation conducted a free eye camp at the end of February, a boon to many cataract patients. The two- day camp was officially opened by Dr. Manu Chandaria at the Lions Sight First Hospital in Loresho. Over 60 patients benefited from this camp, with forty undergoing cataract operations.
